• WHAT IT IS

    Looking to dip your toes in the water of competition in SoCal? There’s no better way than through The Gauntlet, powered by the U.S. Army.

    The Gauntlet is an inclusive and unique competition held as a part of TYR WZA SoCal, designed for individuals interested in testing their fitness alongside their peers in a challenging one-hour window.

  • HOW IT WORKS

    Athletes will compete in their chosen time slot on Fri, Sept 20, 2024, or Sat, Sept 21, 2024, at TYR WZA SoCal.

    Athletes will complete multiple workouts within a 60-minute time frame.

    Top athletes in each division will move on to the finals and compete again on Sun, Sept 22, 2024.

    All Gauntlet divisions will be available to register on a first-come first-served basis and can be found on Competition Corner at the following link starting on July 22nd, 2024.

    The Gauntlet will feature a Scaled, Intermediate, & Rx Individual Division.

WORKOUTS

STATION A

0-6 (6 min)

  • At the call of 3.2.1.GO, athletes will begin WOD 1 and have 6 minutes to find a 1 rep max unbroken complex of 3 hang cleans, 2 front squats and 1 shoulder to overhead

    • Athletes will not be able to preload the barbell

    • All attempts must be completed within their 6 minute designated lifting time

      • Athletes can take as many attempts as they want within their 6 minute time

    • Athletes may adjust their barbell weights at any time within their 6 minutes

      • All attempts must be declared to the judge

      • Athletes can go up or down in weight

    • Athletes will not be able to step on the boundaries of the lifting area

      • This will be a no-rep

    • If a no or missed rep is performed during the hang cleans or front squats, athletes can attempt the movement again if they have not set the barbell down.

      • However, if a no or missed rep is performed on the shoulder to overhead, athletes CANNOT re-attempt the movement again.

    • At 6:00, athletes will have a 1 minute reset and transition to their next workout. Athletes are responsible to adjust their WOD 1 barbell for their weight in WOD 2

STATION A

7-17 (10 min)

  • At the 7:00 minute mark, athletes will begin WOD 2 and have 10 minutes to perform as many reps as possible of 30 thrusters, 7 rope climbs, 20 thrusters, 5 rope climbs, 10 thrusters and 3 rope climbs at their prescribed weights and heights.

    • Athletes will start at their barbell, at the 7:00 min mark, athletes will complete 30 thrusters at their first weight.

    • Then move to the rope to perform 7 rope climbs.

    • Athletes will then go back to their barbell, adjust their weights for the next prescribed weight and perform 20 thrusters.

    • Then move to the rope to perform 5 rope climbs.

    • Athletes will continue this pattern in the next set for the 10 thrusters and 3 rope climbs.

    • After the 3 rope climbs, athletes will adjust their barbells to their first weight again to begin back at the top of the 30 thrusters and 7 rope climbs.

    At 17:00, athletes will have a 3 minute reset and transition to their next station.

STATION b

20-38 (18min)

  • At 20:00 athletes will begin WOD 3 and have 18 minutes to complete a 2000-meter assault run. There will be a gymnastic movement buy-in at the beginning of every 2-minute-on window. 

    • At 20:00 mark, athletes will start under the rig and have their first 2-minute window where they will perform their prescribed gymnastic movement buy-in and then start chipping away at the 2000 meter assault run.

    • At 22:00, athletes will stop the run to perform their prescribed gymnastic movement.

    • When the athlete completes their prescribed gymnastic movement then will continue accumulating meters on the assault runner.

    • Athletes will continue in this fashion until the completion of the 2000 meter assault run.

    At 38:00, athletes will have a 2 minute reset and transition to Station C.

STATION C

20-38 (18min)

  • At 40:00, athletes will begin WOD 4 and complete 30 sandbag cleans for time

    • Athletes must face away from the rig and stay in their lanes, touching the sidelines is a no-rep.

    At the completion of the 30 sandbag cleans, the athletes will immediately go into WOD 5 and perform an amrap of 2,4,6…double DB devils press and a 60 ft sandbag carry, until the 55:00 mark.

    • During the double DB devils press, athletes must face away from the rig and stay in their lanes, touching the sidelines is a no-rep.

    • During the sandbag carry, athletes can carry in any fashion and must go down and around the designated marker, 30 feet out and 30 feet back. 

    At 55:00, athletes will have a 5-minute reset and transition to exiting the stage.

    • Athletes need to adjust their sandbag and DBs as they were in the beginning.
